film, faith, and justice 2009

October 15-17, 2009
at Mars Hill Graduate School - Seattle

Film, Faith, and Justice 2009 is a film and lecture series developed by The Other Journal and featuring independent documentaries and films, some being premiered for the first time in Seattle.

Correlating speaker presentations and panel discussions will articulate personal and communal faith responses to modern issues of injustice such as poverty, violence, immigration, and social responsibility through the lens of the Christian tradition.

This forum is being hosted at Mars Hill Graduate School in downtown Seattle. It will feature keynote addresses from theologians, social advocates, and local community leaders, including:

Emanuel Katongole
Catholic priest of the Kampala archdiocese in Uganda and co-director of the Center for Reconciliation at Duke Divinity School

Kelly Johnson
Associate Professor, University of Dayton, Author and Speaker

James K.A. Smith
Associate Professor of Philosophy at Calvin College and a notable figure in contemporary theology

This event welcomes the public, community leaders, students, teachers, churches, non-profit organizations staff, and advocacy groups - anyone who is interested in exploring the theological implications of pursuing a vocation and lifestyle directed toward social justice.

Though the presentations and discussions will be presented primarily from Christian faith perspectives, people of all faiths and backgrounds are invited and encouraged to add voice to the conversations.
