"'Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
'That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' said the Cat.
'I don't much care where --' said Alice.
'Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.
'--so long as I get somewhere,' Alice added as an explanation."

Spring / Summer 2009

Women's Week I

Men's Week I
June 9-14

Men's Week II
June 16-21

Women's Week II
June 23-28

Led by Dan B. Allender, PhD, these six-day workshops are designed to help the victim of sexual abuse explore the issues related to their recovery in a nurturing, kind environment free from normal daily distractions. Each week is limited to 10 participants of the same gender and incorporates the following aspects of learning and healing:

  • Lecture: Teaching and discussion of material from The Wounded Heart (both the book and the conference) regarding the realities of sexual abuse as well as the process of recovery
  • Individual Counseling: Daily, individual sessions with a highly trained therapist to discuss issues and aspects of the past
  • Group Counseling: A shared context in which past abuse and its effects can be discussed with others whose stories share similar struggles and themes.

A well-appointed, private, and beautiful facility will be provided for five nights and six days. All lodging and meals are included in the cost of this event. You must stay at the facility provided by MHGS Conferences. No other arrangements are permitted.

Because the content and experience of this week is unique and significant, great care is taken in the application and selection process of the individuals who will attend. In order to ensure the best "fit" for all attendees, a directed and specific process will ensue which is articulated below.

All potential attendees must have attended a Wounded Heart conference. If that event is not available, based either on geography or timing, you may purchase and listen to the audio CDs of that event. Click here for ordering information.

registration process

Click on a scheduled week above to begin the registration process. You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone number, and an email address. In addition, an application fee of $500 will be required.

Once your registration information and deposit is received, you will be contacted by Recovery Week staff via phone for an initial screening interview. The parameters by which we discern each registrant's fit for this event are specific and discussed candidly.

If it is determined that this is not the best timing or content for your particular circumstances, we will refund $350 of your $500 deposit.

After completing the initial screening interview and paying the $500 deposit, a formal application process will ensue.

Documents will be emailed to you for completion and return: an Application, a Disclosure of Records Form, and a Counselor/Therapist Form (to be completed by your therapist and returned).

The next step is a full interview (via phone) completed by Recovery Week Staff. Once this has been completed, the nonrefundable deposit is $500 (vs. $150 above) should you decide to forego attendance for any reason. If at any point we make that decision, all but the $150 will be refunded.

If your application is accepted upon completion of the interview and submission of all required documents, a balance of $1750 remains.

Please do not make flight or travel plans until your registration has been confirmed by MHGS Conferences staff.

recovery week ii

Recovery Week I was a time to reflect on how abuse has shaped your life. The issues considered are betrayal, powerlessness, ambivalence, and how the gospel frees us to trust, dream, and embrace life. Recovery Week I ends hinting at what could happen if our hearts were free to dance and move.

Recovery Week II takes this movement of freedom further toward the goal of learning to love your own story. We will explore what it means to be free, to serve others with our themes and burdens, and how that calling is to be lived out for God's glory.  It will involve group and individual interactions, as well as teaching resulting in a deeper ownership of ones' story and a greater awe and gratitude for God's authorship.

You must have attended Recovery Week I within no more than four years in order to apply for Recovery Week II. As with Recovery Week I, an indepth application process will ensue to determine readiness and fit.

Please do not make flight or travel plans until your registration has been confirmed by MHGS Conferences staff.
