Types of Aid Available

1. Federal Direct Loan -

Most students take advantage of the Federal Direct Student Loan program.  This program allows students to borrow loan funds at a low interest rate while in school and offers a 6 month grace period after graduation.  There are 2 different forms of direct loans, subsidized & unsubsidized.

Subsidized loans do not gain interest while students are in school because the government pays them on your behalf.

Unsubsidized loan do gain interest while students are in school, these loans are currently at 6.8%

2. Federal Work Study -

We do offer federal work study positions on and off campus.  These are paid positions that allow students to earn money that can help them pay for the cost of education expenses.  These positions begin in the Fall of each academic year.

3. Scholarships -

MHGS does offer a few internal scholarships each year.  These applications are posted on March 15th and are due June 15th.  Click here for an application.

In addition to the scholarships we offer we do encourage students to look outside the institution although it is tough to find funding for graduate education.

4. Direct Graduate PLUS loans

The Direct loan program also offers an additional loan above the Stafford loans which is the Grad PLUS loan.  This loan has a higher interest rate of 7.9% and an origination fee of 3%.  This is a credit based loan and we encourage students to use this as a last resort option.
